Why you should post on your blog instead of Facebook and Twitter

One thing I have always said to my clients is not to spend too much time concentrating on fantastic daily copy for social networking sites. It's great to keep customers updated about what's going on with your business, especially events and new products. But when it comes to distributing good unique content, it's definately better to have a snippet posted out to your profiles, all linking back to a page on your site.

An example is when you launch a new product you want to describe in depth. Write about it in as much depth as possible, and post it to your website. That way Google and the other search engines will find the material on your site first. Then rewrite the first paragraph and send this out to your social networking profiles, along with a link back to the article on your website. This is good for SEO, long term it's gets much better results and means you don't give away lovely content you could use yourself.

If every month you post 200 manual Tweets this could be about 2000 words or more. Make it 1000 instead and add the rest to your own blog. It's the same with Facebook, try and have one place to send out short messages which automatically sends the details to all your profiles; there are plenty of free services which offer this kind of thing.
